Pyrrha

Pyrrha, along with eleven other baby turkeys, was rescued by Animal Acres investigators after she was abandoned at a turkey farm.  The young turkeys had already had their beaks and toes cut off once, a cruel and painful practice done without any anesthetics.  Turkeys raised for meat are also genetically engineered to double in size every week.  The main goal in the farmed animal industry is to manipulate the bodies of animals so that they grow as much as possible in the shortest amount of time so that profits are maximized for the farmers.

Pyrrha will forever suffer from being a victim of this cruel industry.  She has some difficulty walking, and will likely grow so large in such a short period of time that her legs may have a hard time supporting her weight as she gets older.  Pyrrha is safe now, however, and she and her companions are already exploring the sanctuary grounds and are getting acquainted with all of the other rescued turkeys, chickens, ducks and geese that call Animal Acres home sweet home.
